Making the budget go further

Barceló operates 21 Standard and Premium hotels in countryside and city-centre locations around the UK. As for all hotel groups, Christmas is a hugely important period. Historically, each hotel had two brochures: one for dining, parties and themed events; and another for Festive Breaks, which include accommodation and other leisure options.

For its 2011 campaign, Barceló asked for these two brochures to be combined into one, in Standard and Premium versions. Given budget constraints, we focused on the cover design to ensure brand consistency; individual hotels supplied their own copy.

We also produced a range of supporting materials, including branded direct mail postcards, advertising, banners, leaflets and posters.

Tight budgets have been a constant theme over the last couple of years. At Impact, we’ve always believed in making every pound work as hard as it possibly can. Our work for Barceló is a perfect demonstration of what can be achieved when you stick to your principles and work up to a standard, not down to a price.

Combining two brochures into one isn’t always straightforward, but we achieved it here without compromising on branding or ease of use. The main challenge was managing all the information coming in from the 21 hotels, feeding it into the studio, then working with the Barceló marketing team to ensure brand consistency.

Although there are two different brochure styles – Standard and Premium – we’ve kept them consistent through the use of images and layout. There’s a lot of brand loyalty within the Barceló customer base, so we’ve been careful to maintain the identity and feel we’ve established over the last few years.
